To be honest, I had never heard of this Japanese restaurant before the day I was exploring the Louvre, even though I used to live nearby. I was curious about why so many people were lining up to eat this ramen, so I decided to wait in line to try it for myself.
After speaking with my friend, who has lived in Paris longer than I have, I now understand why so many people wait in line to eat this ramen. He mentioned that this Japanese ramen is quite famous in Paris, and the interior decor and atmosphere make you feel as if you are in Tokyo.
Traditional welcoming phrase
Once you enter the restaurant, you will hear the famous welcoming phrase いらっしゃいませ (irasshaimase) shouted loud and clear by the entire team, as is traditional in Japanese restaurants. The decor transports you to a quaint street in historical Tokyo, resembling a local seafood market in Japan. Each waiter is dressed in an apron and a pair of wellies, reflecting the attire typically worn by shopkeepers in seafood markets.
Interior design
Like I mentioned earlier, here you can see a wide variety of seafood, similar to what you would find at a local seafood market. I’m not sure if the seafood is available for purchase, but perhaps you can find out next time you visit. If you go there and ask them, that would be great! I suppose this is just a sample for decoration.
You can look up at the ceiling; every detail of the interior decoration is amazing.
The store also thoughtfully employs special flooring materials to make you feel as if you are in Japan! Although it appears wet, it is actually dry; this effect is intended to enhance the overall design of the decor.
Menu
A la carte: Here, ramen is what you receive—four recipes featuring this noodle chicken broth made with top-quality French meat. Purists generally prefer the classic soy version, which includes marinated pork, arugula, bamboo shoots, and onion (€12), or the marinated chicken variant.
Ramen
I must say, this is an excellent bowl of ramen. However, I recommend starting with the shoyu ramen on your first visit. Kodawari imports high-quality soy sauce from Japan, and you may be pleasantly surprised by its exceptional flavor.
Overall
It feels like being in a small street in a Japanese seafood market, thanks to the lively atmosphere and narrow restaurants. The ramen, made on-site and served in delicious Landes poultry broth, attracts not only Japanophiles but also gourmets from all walks of life. This is why it has become the new hot Japanese destination, offering what is likely the best ramen in Paris.
A well-deserved success.
Please be aware that lines can be long in the evening or on weekends. It is advisable to visit during the week on your lunch break if you are someone who dislikes waiting in queues.
When I was sitting at the bar eating ramen, I met a Korean girl who was sitting next to me. She had also come to Paris by herself, and she was so lovely. After we finished the ramen, we visited the garden together.
